Tilly’s Kids Backpack Party!

It was a great success and the kids loved their new back to school items. It really made them feel special.
TILLY’S KIDS are a special group of inner city children who come from The House of Mercy Mission in Newark. They are all living below the poverty level and are most are not living in primary family care situations. Pass It Along hosts programs for Tilly’s Kids throughout the summer, an Environmental Education and Awareness program that meets twice a week and a Fun in the Sun Day program that meets every Wednesday at Swartswood State Park. We end our summer programs for Tilly’s Kids with an annual Backpack Party and provide each child with a backpack filled with school supplies to start the new school year. If you are interested in participating in this program and donating a backpack, please contact Stephanie at stephanie@passitalong.org or call the office at 973-726-9777. She will provide you with the name, age and sex of the child you will be shopping for.
Again we will be collecting specific items to ensure that all the kids are treated equally. Therefore, we are asking you to please participate by purchasing a backpack, socks, toothbrush, toothpaste, hand sanitizer, and age appropriate school supplies. Please try to fit all items in the backpack. Backpacks are due at the Pass It Along office by August 10th.
Thank you for your support!!!!

Pastor Tilly Honored

This program provides services and enrichment opportunities to underprivileged children from the Newark area. Nominations are sought months ahead and through careful consideration, nominees were selected from a pool of over 550 applicants and across twenty two different categories. The individuals recognized not only exhibited the foresight to recognize and act upon a need in a hero’s capacity but they did it as a volunteer capacity without compensation. As a previous recipient of the New Jersey Governor’s Jefferson Award, all of us at PIA are in total agreement with this selection! We are so excited that Tilly has been recognized for hard work and devotion to the children of Newark.

Foodstock

This drive is instrumental in helping food insecure families provide meals to their children over the Summer. Many of these families rely on free or reduced cost breakfast and lunch programs throughout the school year. Without access to those programs during the Summer, families face a huge burden providing their children with those meals and food pantries have a tough time keeping up with the increased needs. A special thanks to Sparta Stop and Shop for hosting a week long drive where PIA volunteers collected over 600 food items and over $100.00 in cash donations.

Deloitte Impact Day

At Camp Nejeda children and teens with Type 1 diabetes are free to just be children and to enjoy a fun and educational camping experience in a safe learning environment.  Deloitte employees worked hard to erect a fence around the lake area, they also painted and cleaned cabins, planted flowers at the front entrance to welcome campers, re-fortified the sand at the beach area and performed a security check on all playground equipment. Special thanks to PIA volunteer, Susannah Ollivierre for serving as the project coordinator for this event.

Patty works hard to manage our Pet Therapy program which brings pets to the residents at the Homestead Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. We thank Patty for her service and are excited that she has received such a special recognition for her hard work and dedication in service to others.

Foodstock Food Drive

In lieu of presents for Harrison Sieradzki’s 4th birthday, he decided to help the community by asking for food to be donated to Pass It Along’s annual Food Stock food drive. Harrison proved to us all that giving back to others can truly be the best gift of all.

20150519_144912-2

Sponsored by Pass It Along, The United Way of New Jersey and The New Jersey Herald, Food Stock is designed to stock the food pantries for the summer months to help meet the needs of families that rely on free or reduced cost school based lunch and breakfast programs to feed their children. While all donations are welcome and accepted we are specifically asking for non-perishable breakfast and lunch type items to be donated.
