Nancy Nester – Pass It Along Intern

In 2017, Pass It Along had the honor of having Nancy Nester, 16, of Sparta as an intern! Nancy began volunteering with Pass It Along during her freshman year of high school, and over the past year took her volunteering to the next level. Starting in March 2017, she teamed up with OSCAR (One Step Closer Animal Rescue), a non-profit animal rescue organization in Sparta, NJ. In total, Nancy completed 268.5 hours in 2017 and now organizes their volunteer program!
“She does everything when she comes to help us from cleaning to helping feed the pups to loading for events to helping with adoptions,” said Anthony Prisco of OSCAR. “You name it, and she helps us with it. Last weekend (January 6 & 7, 2018) we had 16 pups go to their forever homes. Nancy came to help on Saturday and we had 10 pups go home on that day. That definitely would not have been possible without her help.
We would like to take a moment to thank Nancy for all of her hard work; you are the definition of what makes Pass It Along incredible! She will continue her internship into 2018, and we cannot wait to see what she accomplishes.

250 Sets of NEW Hats & Gloves still needed

Christmas in the City will take place in just a few weeks. This year we celebrate 15 years of our partnership with Tilly’s Kids, who is always able to find the schools that need the most help during the holiday season.
There are 4 schools in Newark that will get a special deliScarfGuys2very of toys, books, and some hats & gloves for the cold weather-that’s over 800 kids!
Thanks to our corporate Sponsors like Brazil Brothers who are collecting toys on our behalf and many of the local families that get together and purchase the items themselves.
As of our most recent count though we are still short approximately 250 new sets of hats and gloves for the boys and girls of a preschool we are delivering to. If you would like to donate these items please drop them off at our offices at 60 Blue Heron Road, Suite 100, Sparta, NJ.
All deliveries to the school will take place during 12/17-2/22 so we are asking for all items to be delivered to our offices by 12/15.
Any questions please contact Lorena Sergent at or by calling our office at 973-726-9777 x232.
With much gratitude from all of us at Pass It Along- Have a great holiday season!

COMPADRES Volunteer Leader Needed ASAP

Volunteer PIA
We have been lucky to have an AMAZING volunteer leader for the last few years for our COMPADRES programs. Unfortunately, she will no longer be able to lead our teens during the evenings for this program.
Please share this with anyone you think might be interested in learning more about this great volunteer leadership role.
Simply Sign Up to have Bob Jones, our Director of Programs, get back to you to discuss the details of the program.

Program Summary:

Compadres is a mentorship initiative that gets young volunteers to work with children from low-income families from the Pathways 2 Prosperity program. The evening is broken down into two groups and can be led by two separate individuals.
During the first part of the program “Homework Helpers at Compadres” from 5pm to 5:45pm, teen volunteers assist children with homework or school projects.
During the second part of the program “Compadres” runs from 5:45pm to 8:15pm. Teen volunteers will get involved in mentoring, reading books, educational games and more.

Thanks for “Passing It Along”!

Tilly's Kids Summer Program & Backpack Party a HUGE Success

2015 Backpack Party

2015 Backpack Party

Summer came and went but not until wonderful memories were created by our teen volunteers for the participants in our Tilly’s Kids Summer 2015 program, the link takes you to our photos. Our Wednesday Fun in the Sun program met with perfect weather each week. 36 Tilly’s Kids participants enjoyed the warm companionship of their “teen buddies” every Wednesday in July while they swam in the lake, played on the playground and went on a Nature Scavenger Hunt at Swartswood State Park.

At our Byram Day Camp program the kids stayed academically connected by learning about animals, the weather, and doing hands-on science experiments all while having fun with our amazing PIA teen volunteers. Special thanks to Sue Loyas for putting her heart and soul into teaching all the lessons.
Thanks to the generosity of so many people, we once again were able to send all of our Tilly’s Kids back to school with backpacks filled with school supplies. The kids were so excited to receive their beautiful new backpacks and were grateful for the much needed school supplies. Thanks to the many individuals who donated to this great program, especially Selective Insurance employees who donated 22 back packs and the Lake Mohawk Pool Swim team who donated 10.

Pass It Along's Annual Triathlon 2015!

What a great triathlon event Saturday!  Congratulations to all the finishers!
Please join me in thanking the Event Host, Lake Mohawk Country Club, as well as Presenting Sponsors, Newton Medical Center and Atlantic Sports Health.  We could not do this Event without their generous monetary and in kind donations toward this Event.  They consistently and directly support our mission to create confident, resilient and compassionate teenagers who connect to and do great things in their local community and beyond!  Added thanks to a wonderful job by Rich Carlson, Head of Marine Patrol, the LMCC lifeguards and all the staff at LMCC lead by Club General Manager, Mark Musilli.  Also, thank you to Bridgette Hobart for providing the buoys and swim angels, and DJ Rob VanBrunt for providing the music at Beach 1.
We live in a great community!  Please also join in thanks & support to all of these community based businesses who donated to this year’s Event:

Sparta Dental Assoc.
Freedom Business Machines
C3 Workplace

Alex Aguado, State Farm Insurance
Sparta Tire
Maxwell & Molly’s Closet

Last but not least, thanks to over 60 volunteers that had big and small roles in Saturday’s event.  From the several months of planning to Event day….setting up the course, keeping hundreds of spectators and participants directed and safe, and breaking everything down when the Event was over.
