About the Event
Pass It Along will host Family Volunteer Day on November 23, 2019 at the Sparta Evangelical Free Church, in Sparta, New Jersey. The event will begin at 10:00AM, and end at 12:00PM. There are several options to enroll in Family Volunteer Day. All are welcome to participate in the event, and may register as a family, group, or individual to serve with your community in a variety of service projects. To adopt a family in need and provide them with a holiday meal, please contact Kathy Rathbone at firstname.lastname@example.org, or at (973)-726-9777. The adoption list is limited.
During the event, those who are enrolled to sponsor a family will be asked to arrive between the times of 10:00AM and 12:00PM to drop-off their donations. Boxes, which are encouraged to be decorated at the event, will be provided to gather the food donations for the selected family. Several service projects will be taken place during Family Volunteer Day. Volunteers will have the option to create dog toys for Father John’s Animal House, in Lafayette, write notes for Pass It Along’s ‘Note in a Coat’ Drive, bake cookies or create cards for children for Cards for Hospitalized Kids, located in Chicago, Illinois, and more!
Family Volunteer Day was started 24-years-ago by Points of Light, an affiliate partner of Pass It Along, as a way to kick-off the holiday season. Family Volunteer Week is a part of National Family Week, sponsored by the Alliance for Children and Families and the Annie E. Casey Foundation. Family Volunteer Day is made possible by several sponsors, including First Hope Bank, Newton Medical Center, Atlantic Health Systems, The Orthopedic Institute of New Jersey, and ThorLabs. Other sponsors of the event include Sutherland Packaging, Stop and Shop of Sparta and the Sparta Evangelical Free Church.
“Family Volunteer Day provides families, organizations and individuals the opportunity to volunteer together while making a difference within their community. Whether it is helping out a local food pantry, dog shelter, nursing home or adopting a local family in need of a Thanksgiving meal, there are so many ways to get involved on this day,” says Kathy Rathbone, Director of Programs for Pass It Along, “It’s a day that gives you that chance to make a difference in someone's life.”
