The benefits of volunteerism -- for anyone, of any age -- are virtually endless. At Pass It Along, we offer a wide variety of local, hands-on and meaningful opportunities that promote resiliency and self-esteem and provide an outlet for diverse talents and interests for teenagers, as well as for people of all ages.
LIST ALL VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS
Peer mentors assist children with homework or school projects, play educational games, engage in recreational activities, participate in group educational structured activities, read books, share a joke, tell stories and enjoy spending time together. The activities and consistent interest in the child’s personal and academic well-being convey the message, “You matter and I care about you.” Adult volunteers are needed to serve as volunteer leaders to our teen volunteers.
Cooking with a Mission
On the third Saturday of the month, volunteers travel to Newark and deliver food to local residents at the House of Mercy Mission. Each month the program serves meals to about 150 people
Volunteers share their well-behaved pets with the seniors residing at the Homestead Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.
Hardyston Charity Garden
Volunteers plant, maintain, irrigate and harvest produce in this local charity gardens. All produce is donated to local pantries to support families in need.
Ryan’s Cases for Smiles
Volunteers make brightly colored, child friendly pillowcases to be donated to local hospitals serving terminally ill children.
Father John's Animal House
On Saturday mornings, teens help clean cages, welcome new animals and assist Father John's in preparing for new pet adoptions.
Volunteers are needed to work as cheerleaders and assistants at SCARC outings, playing basketball, bowling, or working on art projects!
Our Tilly's Kids programs are designed to give one-on-one attention to at risk inner city youth who live below the poverty level. The program builds self-resiliency skills and promotes positive self-esteem.
Tilly's Kids at Swartswood State Park - This program offers a fun in the sun relaxing day at a state park. Recreational activities, swimming and lunch are enjoyed by Pass It Along teen volunteers who serve as mentors and “buddies” to Tilly's Kids participants.
Tilly's Kids Byram Day Camp - This program is designed to provide environmental education and awareness and meets two days a week during the summer months.
Tilly’s Kids School Year Program – Accompanied by teen volunteers Tilly’s Kids participate in monthly outings including attending high school football games, holiday parties, game days and attending high school musical productions.
